Ultimate Photography Course a was good refresher and also a deep dive into the technical steps that make images great - the way as a photographer/artist I want them to be. I can now take control over the camera and my images by using all manual settings and doing planning the settings in my head. Finally. For years I had used default settings thinking it was "faster, easier". Dave and Ally are a great resource for teaching the way you learn - just ask them what you need to know. It was great fun to talk global travel and photography with everyone in the class, many who had great stories of the photo trips they had taken with the McKay Tours. I look forward to my next "ahha" in a McKay Class. - Elizabeth Springs

I have playing with photography for years, but frankly have never had enough time to truly focus and dedicate time to truly understanding both my new camera and the dynamics of crafting great stories through photography. This McKay workshop was really exceptional for me. It brought together bits and pieces I’ve been told and heard over the years into 1 weekend— it was like piecing it all together. Fantastic instructors, fun fellow classmates, great investment of a weekend

I recently attended the McKays’ two-day immersion photography workshop in Sacramento, and it truly took my experience to a whole new level. I’ve participated in several of their shorter classes before, but this one went much deeper—both technically and creatively. Dave McKay and Alley McKay are incredibly knowledgeable, but what really sets them apart is how fun, engaging, and approachable they are as instructors. They don’t just teach the technical “how-to”—they also emphasize the art, emotion, and storytelling behind each photograph, which made a huge difference in how I approach my work. One of the highlights was the night photography session at the Tower Bridge—such a great hands-on experience in a beautiful setting. I also really enjoyed connecting with other like-minded people who share a passion for photography. The sense of community added a lot to the overall experience. If you’re looking to grow not just your technical skills but also your creative eye, I highly recommend this workshop. It’s absolutely worth it. I look forward to another opportunity to travel and learn with them.

This was an amazing tour, blending wildlife with culture photography. The guides that were chosen in Hokkaido and Kyoto knew their territories well and had a few surprises to keep the days fresh. The instructors, David and Toby, were always ready to pivot and change up the itinerary to fit the group as well as the objectives. Japan as a destination is a wise choice for anyone who is adventurous as well as curious about another culture.

Another great trip with the McKays! I have been to Japan dozens of times (with work and mixed in some sightseeing, etc). But the McKay's agenda blew away my expectations - again. It is the ideal way to travel with a smallish group (12 or so photographers), a well thought out itinerary, focus on seeing the common places - but when few people are there and interesting perspectives of Japan. There is time to do your own thing, and I always learn so much about the history, culture, and of course, improve my photograph skills
